The Queensland Integrity Commissioner (QIC) is responsible for maintaining the state’s Lobbying register under the Integrity Act 2009 (Qld) and the Queensland Registered Lobbyists Code of Conduct (PDF, 178KB).
The Lobbying register includes:
- lobbyists’ names and business registration details
- the name and role of each person employed, contracted or engaged by a lobbyist to carry out a lobbying activity (called a ‘listed person’)
- the date the person became a former senior government representative or a former opposition representative (if applicable)
- the name of each third-party client of the lobbyist, which remains searchable via the ‘Search client’ button for 12 months after lobbying activity ceases; will be kept in the database and be searchable in the Contact log for 10 years after lobbying activity ceases
- the purpose of the lobbying contact.
It is the obligation and responsibility of registered lobbyists to ensure that information in the register is up to date and accurate, and to enter information about their lobbying activities into the register.
Register of contact with lobbyist
Records kept by Queensland public authorities about contacts with registered lobbyists
Separately from the Lobbying Register and the information entered into it by lobbyists, it is the obligation and responsibility of all Queensland public authorities (state, local government and opposition representatives) listed under the Integrity Act 2009 to keep their own records of their contact with lobbyists – these records are retained for 10 years under the Queensland State Archives General Retention and Disposal Schedule for Administrative Records.
Queensland State Archives also provides advice to Queensland public authorities on managing contact records with lobbyists in its Public Records Brief (PDF, 65KB).
